MANATEE -- Local restaurant and bar owners are throwing super-sized parties for Super Bowl Sunday.

Some owners already have so many reservations that they're nearing seating limits for those who want to eat, drink and merrily watch the big game. Super Bowl XLI features the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts at Miami Gardens' Dolphin Stadium Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Tequila Beach Sport Grille, 7423 Manatee Ave. W., has only been open since Jan. 7 but is offering a chance to win $10,000 in cash. Odds are one in 100 that there will be a cash winner. If not, a mini-refrigerator stocked with beer and T-shirts will be given away, said Manager Jeremy Runo.

This is in addition to the business' digital accoutrements like the 14 color plasma TV screens. the 230-inch projection screens, and 10 booths boasting individual 15-inch flat screen color TVs.

"We're going to be the biggest and best place for all sporting events in Bradenton," predicted Runo.

However, his competitors are no slouches. Hooters of Bradenton, 4908 14th St. W., is planning a drawing in the third quarter for a 30-inch color flat screen TV, said Bryon Holley, general manager. And he's already taking orders for chicken wings, the day's unofficial dish.

" 'To-go' orders is the big thing for the day," he explained. Last year the restaurant sold 1,500 pounds of chicken wings.

To keep the party rolling, he's also offering specials on beer and wine.

The 21 TV sets at Beef O'Brady's at 5942 34th St. W., will be going full blast and the management is planning to provide shirts, noisemakers, and beads, said Linda Durfee, owner-manager.

The restaurant is taking reservations, which are going fast, she said. It costs $10 to hold a seat with the money credited toward food and beverages when the customer arrives. If the person doesn't show up after the first quarter of the game, the seat is given to someone else but the $10 voucher is still good for food and drink, she said.

The rock band Hard Drive will play at Clancy's Irish Sports Bar & Grill, 6218 Cortez Road W., and customers will again dine upon pork roasted outside and sold for $6.50 per plate, said Ginnie McNeil, head bartender.

There'll be raffles, 50-cent chicken wings, $1 drafts and balloons at AJ's Cafe, 36251 S.R. 70, Myakka City.

"We got a big party, my place is already booked up for it," said co-owner Angelo Lisak.

And finally, if rock music, Jello shots and Hooters' girls are not your cup of tea, there's always Mattison's Riverside, at 1200 First Ave. W.

The restaurant will have a large TV on the deck. "And if you are not interested in the game, you can sit back and enjoy the view," said Jennifer Ahearn-Koch, marketing and public relations director.
